Cranleigh Tankard and Match v. The School

June 23rd, 2012

<< All Day Match | Schools Veterans >>

We had six OCs and five members of the School shooting squad for this event – perhaps a little disappointing for the main opportunity for the School to meet us. Early on in the afternoon we had a little rain but otherwise it was fine with some wind that gave us quite a bit of trouble, particularly at 300 yards.

The Cranleigh Tankard was won by Rob Welford with a score of 97.8. The match against the School was won by the OCs.

The shooting at 500 yards was quite interesting in view of the fact that our next fixture is the Schools Veterans Competition, the most important event of all, which will involve ten shots to count at 500 yards from teams of five. The best five scores at 500 yards on 23rd June were:

R A Welford 50.6
A S Elliott 50.6
R C Bourne 49.5
R J Pile 49.2
E S Eilley 48.4
Total 246.23

In 2011 this score would have given the OCs sixth place in the list of “A” Teams. Furthermore, statistically, this is not our best possible team of five. If not the OCs who? If not now when? Keep your courage fixed to the sticking place, guys!
