Short Range “Q” Match

April 14th, 2012

<< Short Range Practice | Long Range "Q" Match >>

120414srqWe had a very good turnout, ten shooters, for this event on a fine, if chilly, afternoon. As at least one school was only able to raise four it was agreed that the match would be decided on the basis of teams of four, with three nominated before the start. We decided that we would aim to declare two four man team results by the end of the day.

As the results below show, the OCs won this match. Rob Pile received the trophy, and the “B” team came third.

Old Albanians 176.9 177.9 353.18

There were some organisational wrinkles: the match got off to a slow start because of a radio problem and at 600 yards we all had to shoot on 500 yard targets because there were not enough 600 yard ones available. Now, the only differences between the 500 target and the 600 one are the sizes of the bull/V bull: 10.5″/6.3″ and 13″/7.8″ respectively. The reader might like to consider what, if anything, that says about the scores of the various teams. Some of us are old enough to remember when the same target was used at both 500 and 600 yards. As far as the OCs were concerned the organisation was excellent: to get ten shooters through at both ranges in the time available was a tour de force for which your scribe can claim no credit whatsoever.
